The ACA Open Enrollment period is the annual window when you can sign up for or change a Marketplace health plan. Missing the deadline means waiting until the next Open Enrollment, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
Here are the key dates to know:
- 2026 coverage: Open Enrollment ran November 1, 2025 through January 15, 2026. Coverage started January 1, 2026 for plans selected by December 15, 2025, and February 1, 2026 for plans selected by January 15, 2026.
- 2027 coverage: Open Enrollment runs November 1 through December 15, 2026 only. There is no January 15 extension. Coverage starts January 1, 2027 for plans selected by December 15, 2026.
The 2027 window is 45 days shorter than recent years. If you've been relying on that extra January window, that option is gone for the 2027 plan year. Mark November 1 on your calendar and don't wait.
Outside of Open Enrollment, you can still enroll if you experience a qualifying life event, such as:
- Losing job-based coverage
- Getting married or divorced
- Having or adopting a child
- Moving to a new area
- Turning 26 and coming off a parent's plan
Each qualifying event opens a 60-day Special Enrollment Period starting from the date of the event. Medicaid and CHIP enrollment is available year-round for those who qualify, regardless of Open Enrollment timing.
Don't wait until the last week of Open Enrollment to reach out. Plan options and processing times mean earlier is always better. Call us at (305) 330-1277 or Check your coverage options before the deadline.
